Specialised Drone Services

PEAT & WETLAND SERVICES

Despite their importance, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate.

Drones are revolutionising ecological restoration, and their use in peat bog restoration is a promising example of how technology can aid environmental recovery.

HOW DRONES SUPPORT RESTORATION & CONSERVATION

SEEDING

Our technology accurately drops native plant species and seeds over targeted areas, speeding up the re-vegetation process.

The below can be delivered in a variety of forms, including suspension fluid, gel, seed balls, or a dry state. SDS offers expert advice and help to source the best solutions to ensure the most effective application method for your specific area.

  • Typha seeds
  • Sphagnum Mosses
  • Carnivorous Plants – Sundews, Butterworts, Bladderworts
  • Heathland & Bog Shrubs – Heather, Cross-leaved Heath, Bog Myrtle
  • Sedges & Grasses - Bog Asphodel, Bog Rosemary and Cotton Grass

REACHING INACCESSIBLE AREAS

Drones can easily operate in regions that are difficult or unsafe for ground crews to access or work in. This ensures comprehensive coverage of the whole area of restoration. This also ensures employee and volunteer safety in harsh conditions and reduces the H&S risks associated with working on peat bogs and marsh lands.

EFFICIENCY + SPEED = RAPID RESULTS

A drone can spray a hectare of land in 5 minutes! This speed enables vast areas to be covered effectively and efficiently. Depending on the conditions and the product used, this could potentially be as much as 72 Hectares in 6 hours

By using this technology, drones are a cost-effective way to make the restoration process faster, more precise, and more effective, while ensuring low-impact to the land and environment of these important and amazing spaces.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

At SDS we are committed to delivering exceptional results while significantly reducing our environmental impact. Drones have up to a 95% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional vehicles, helping customers reduce their own environmental impact.

Beyond our services, we are actively working to minimise our own carbon footprint. This includes integrating solar charging, battery storage, and electric vehicles when viable. Our goal is to lead the way in environmental responsibility.

PLANT PROTECTION & REMOVING INVASIVE VEGETATION

The replanting and restoration of these natural environments is essential, but their success relies on the effective management of invasive plant species.

Without proper eradication, the hard work of all groups and people involved will not reach its full potential.

XAG Drones (distributed by Autospray Systems), are the market leaders in agricultural drone technology in the UK. They are the only drone company working on a daily basis with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to secure permissions for the spraying of essential products needed to control invasive species.

This pioneering initiative is fully funded and led by Autospray Systems on behalf of XAG and all stakeholders involved in the restoration of these environments.
